Home and Community-based Services is a Texas Medicaid waiver program for people with an intellectual disability or a related condition. It supports people to live in the community, with family, in their own home, with a host family, or in a small group home.
Texas Home Living is a Medicaid waiver program for people who live in their own home or their family's home. It adds essential services, like community support, respite, and therapies, to the help a person already has.
Both programs start with the Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority (LIDDA) for your county. They add you to the interest list, and when an offer comes, they help you apply and coordinate your services.
Your services are built around a plan that starts with what you want for your life. You, your family or LAR, your service coordinator, and your provider build it together and update it as your goals change.
If you live in your own or family home, CDS lets you hire, train, and manage some of your own support workers, with help from a financial management services agency that handles payroll and background checks.
You choose your provider from those available in your area, and you can change providers at any time, even if you move. Your service coordinator helps arrange the change, and we are glad to talk it through first.
